New options introduced today allow to display auto-scalable images directly on your frontpage -- and much more.
Your frontpage = any gallery
Up until now, a PhotoDeck frontpage could be one of two things: the thumbnail index of all galleries, or a custom page. Now, you can also display any gallery directly on the frontpage.
Thumbnails or first image?
Another new option lets you display immediately the first enlarged image in a gallery, instead of all its thumbnails. So when someone clicks on a link to that gallery, he is taken directly to the first enlarged image (or video).
You can select what gets displayed on your frontpage via My Website / Pages. The setting that defines what a gallery opens with (first enlarged image or thumbnails of all images) is part of the Gallery Style options.
With these two new options, you can for example:
- - Display on your frontpage an image that fills the screen (select a gallery as the frontpage, and make sure that the gallery style for that gallery makes it open on the first image, and that auto-scaling is enabled).
In most cases, this is a better option than a fixed-sized slideshow, as it leaves control to the viewer (and allows larger images) ;
- - Display your blog on your frontpage ;
- - Leave the frontpage untouched, but allow portfolio galleries to open up directly on the first enlarged image instead of the thumbnails ;
- - ...
Enjoy, and let us know what you think!
