We have introduced 2 new improvements that can make a big difference on you website design!
When we launched PhotoDeck, the product was mainly meant for proofing and for stock photography, with a focus on useability. So it was logical that the thumbnails be an exact representation of the images - uncropped.
Still, it is undeniable that a grid of square thumbnails look better, especially for portfolios, so we've reprocessed all images in the system, and - voilà - everybody now also has square thumbnails available for use, in two sizes!
Gallery covers vs image thumbnails
The second improvement lets you have different kinds of thumbnails for gallery covers and for images. This way, you can easily get the best of two worlds:
- nice square thumbnails for the gallery index (the frontpage if you haven't replaced it by a custom page),
- and faithful, uncropped thumbnails for the images if you use PhotoDeck mostly for stock or proofing.
Even if you don't switch to square thumbnails, this allows you to have a different size of thumbnails for gallery covers and images. It can help with the clarity of the navigation - beside the looks.
Taking these improvements into use takes just a few clicks! You will find both options integrated in the Design and Layout panel (click on the component where the images are displayed). If you are on a LITE plan without access to these settings, note that we have also updated our themes so that most of them now use square thumbnails, at least for the gallery covers.
